Explorer Post #1072 Installation Dinner

Article by Andrew Carpenter

On Saturday April 19th, 2014, the City of Glen Cove Volunteer EMS Explorer Post #1072 held its first annual Installation of Officers. Although the Explorer Post has been around since 2002, this is the first year the officers and members of the Explorer Post have been installed at an installation dinner of their own in front of their families, members of Glen Cove EMS, and elected officials.  This year, the Officers of the Explorer Post were sworn in by Mayor Reginald Spinello and the members were sworn in by Chief of Department Thomas Kenary.

The Explorer Program is a division of the Boy Scouts of America which provides participants ages 14-18 with education and experience in various career fields. Glen Cove EMS established the Explorer Post #1072 in 2002 to provide training and education to high school aged students interested in the emergency medical services.  Members of Explorer Post #1072 are trained in CPR and basic first aid as well as the basics of working on an ambulance.  Many former members of the Explorer Post have gone on to become members of Glen Cove EMS including Chief of Department Thomas Kenary and 2nd Assistant Chief Matthew Venturino.

Congratulations to all members sworn into office!
